5 reasons why sunglasses are your best friend

Besides just being an amazing fashion statement, sunglasses help in a variety of ways. They help in many ways ranging from health to even comfort. I have rounded up the Top 5 reasons why sunglasses are your best friend:

  1. UV Protection

UV Protection is so important and probably the number one reason you SHOULD wear sunglasses. UV Light is actually absorbed by molecules which are present in your eye and too much exposure can be extremely damaging. It is important in finding glasses that cut out UV light, specifically those labeled with UVA/UVB protection. Additionally, long term exposure to sunlight can lead to much more serious diseases of the eye including macular degeneration and cataracts. Think of sunglasses like sunscreen for your eyes!!

  1. Skin Protection

Skin around your eyes is one of the most sensitive parts of the body. As a matter of fact, cancer on the eyelids and skin around the eyes is actually very common, about 10% of skin cancers happen around the eyes. Wearing large lensed sunglasses that protect not only your eyes, but your skin from exposure to light is key.

  1. Cutting Glare

This, might be a no brainer, however, I think that many people don’t realize what a difference this can make. Cutting glare can improve everyday tasks like driving or simply being able to enjoy the view of your surroundings, especially when it comes to days at the beach, boating, fishing, and water sports. Polarized sunglasses are thought of to be the best for cutting down the glare that is caused by sunlight.

  1. Avoid Wrinkles

Nobody wants premature wrinkles! Sun exposure causes us to squint resulting in crow’s feet on the outer corners of our eyes. Additionally, sun exposure can cause the skin around our eyes to loosen and sag. Wearing large lenses, again, can prevent this from happening as we get wide protection around our eyes.

  1. Light to Dark Adaptation

When you are in the sun then go indoors, you experience that your eyes need time adjust to the darker light. Well the same is true the other way around. Too much sunlight exposure to the eyes can mess with your eyes ability to adapt in the nighttime. As we can imagine, this can effect night driving dramatically.

Having sunglasses gives us the ability to look stylish while still protecting ourselves from the damaging sun. They really are your best friend!
