Top 4 Natural Remedies for Eczema around the eyes

Eczema is a very common skin problem effecting many people, no matter what age, all around the world. It can affect you anywhere around the body, including around the eyes, causing red, inflamed and itchy patches that can swell-up and even crack/swell. The skin around our eyes is sensitive as it is, so, adding Eczema into the equation can become very uncomfortable and painful. Eczema around the eyes is caused from many different things including dry weather and allergies. When treating Eczema around the eyes you want to be as cautious as possible. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite natural remedies for Eczema around the eyes:

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil can be a great natural remedy for Eczema as it is moisturizing, nourishing and relieves itching. It has the capability to prevent dryness of the skin making it very soft. Since it is chemical free, it is safe to use to treat Eczema in teens and even babies. Additionally, coconut oil has a natural anti-inflammatory action that helps with the inflammation that comes with extreme weather conditions.  To use, simply rub on a light layer around the eye area.  I prefer to use this at night and sleep with it for extra moisture that will help through out the next day.  If you wish to remove, use a warm wash cloth to wipe clean.

Tea Tree Oil

Another great oil! Tea tree oil decreases the itchy/dry feeling experienced with Eczema. When used regularly, it can tend to reduce the swelling dramatically. In addition to helping relieve the symptoms, tea tree oil has anti-bacterial properties that is great. To use, apply a small amount onto a cotton pad and dab on inflamed areas around the eye. But be careful not to get this oil in your eye as it can sting.

Oatmeal

This is the ultimate home remedy! Who would’ve thought oatmeal? Oatmeal has the ability to soak up excess oil and help eliminate dead skin cells. To apply oatmeal around the eyes, add lukewarm water to uncooked oatmeal and apply a small amount around the eyes with a towel.  Leave on for 10 minutes and gently remove with a towel and warm water.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is great to use as it is very gentle on the skin. It is known to give hydration around the eyes and even carries anti-inflammatory properties. If you are able to get an Aloe Vera plant, the gel straight from the plant is considered best!  The best way to apply Aloe Vera is with your clean fingers.  Dab the gel on areas of dryness and gently wipe with a warm, wet cloth after about 10-15 minutes.

These natural remedies can help elevate Eczema symptoms in a variety of ways. It is very important to make sure that none of these remedies go inside the eye.  In addition to these natural remedies, don’t forget to keep your skin hydrated by drinking lots of water. Trust me, your skin will love it!
